Clean Slate: Martinson house razed after years of dispute

Posted
The last vestiges of the former junk yard at 18 Parkhill St., Cashmere, was razed after the Cashmere City Council awarded the contract to Chipman Construction of Cashmere.

City staff requested quotes from three contractors on the Small Works roster for demolition of the house.

Chipman Construction was the apparent low bidder for the amount of $8,439.00 which includes all applicable taxes. The council approved the contract at a special meeting called Friday, Dec. 16.

Demolition began on Wednesday, Dec. 21 and was completed on Friday, Dec. 23.

The property, still in the name of Wesley Martinson, deceased, came under the management of the city of Cashmere due to unpaid liens awarded to the city in 2004 and 2014 for the costs and fines around the clean up of the property.

The property is currently valued by Chelan County at $107,539. As of two years ago, liens against it totaled $154,374 with interest continuing to accrue.

The city will be putting it up for sale in the springtime, according to City Planner Mark Botello.
