On Saturday, February 25, the Bulldog girls faced off against the Mt. Baker Mountaineers in Regionals at Wenatchee High School.
The Mountaineers, who are 16-3 overall, played hard all throughout the game and helped to make this year's Regionals very intense for the Bulldogs.
"It's tough to play against 6 ft players," Coach Brent Darnell said. "We've never had that this year."
The first quarter started off strong and ended with Cashmere in the lead 15-11.
The second quarter saw the girls continuing to stay ahead with a score of 19-17 by half-time.
According to Darnell, Mt. Baker showed a 'tremendous amount of effort' and that they really played a great game.
The third quarter of the game is when things really began to intensify.
The start of the quarter had the girls tied 19-19, and then that quickly changed to 21-19.
"What I'm noticing is that the audience is trying to determine who the alpha dog is on the court," Jeff Zehnder said. "They're figuring out who the alpha team is."
But the Mountaineers came back once again and had the game tied at 21-21.
The Bulldogs fought to stay on top and at the end of the third quarter, Cashmere was in the lead 28-23.
Throughout the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were managing to stay in the lead until a 3-pointer shot by the Mountaineers brought the score to 30-32.
With only two minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs quickly brought their score up and tied 32-32 with the Mountaineers.
"We're super impressed," John and Sharyn Musser said of the Bulldogs. "All of them are go-getters. There's not a slacker in the bunch."
The Mountaineers pulled ahead again and were leading 34-32.
Miraculously, with only 20 seconds left in the game, Cami Knishka scored a 3-pointer and brought the Bulldogs in the lead 35-34.
After another score was made, the Bulldogs walked away victoriously with the final score of 36-34.
"I'm just glad to get out of here with a win and get to State," Darnell said.
The Cashmere Bulldogs will be playing at State on Thursday, March 2 at the Yakima SunDome at 10:30 a.m.
