Teri and Amber Zimmerman "Glass Two Ways" on Display Icicle Arts Gallery is pleased to present Teri and Amber Zimmerman Glass Two Ways on display through May 7, 2012. Managing Director Anna Miller and Curatorial & Exhibits Coordinator Bryan Miller will host a Meet the Artists Reception at Icicle Arts Gallery, 347 Division St. Leavenworth on Thursday, April 12 5-7 p.m. Amber Zimmerman describes her work as "recycled memories in bottle glass" and Teri Zimmerman describes her work as "fractal patterns carved in glass." This mother/daughter duo expresses their unique talents through the common medium of glass, although each has their own distinct style. Ranging from two-dimensional to three-dimensional this show includes stunning functional objects such as bowls and vases alongside abstract conceptual pieces that will amaze and inspire you.

Glass is a natural and familiar medium to Amber Zimmerman, having grown up in a glass art environment. Art has been a lifelong passion to Amber, who continued to study it in depth at Evergreen State College, where she graduated with a B.A in sculpture in 2000. Amber has also taken several courses on glass blowing, fusing and glass casting through the years. After graduating from Evergreen, she worked with her family in the art glass business at Silvermoon Studio, as well as on freelance art commissions. In the past few years, Amber has been interested in mixed media and using recycled materials, which allows her to utilize materials and create art in a more environmentally conscious way. Amber also paints, draws, and sculpts.

Teri's art education did not take place in a traditional classroom, it stemmed from the creative adults she grew up with and being a third-generation artist. Teri's continued overactive curiosity and imagination have contributed most to where she is now as an artist. Her training continues with each commission and the challenges they take her through with new and exceptionally interesting places, both physically and mentally. Together with her art and life partner, Steve Zimmerman, the two have completed a body of work for the past 35 years. Most pieces are in private homes in the Pacific Northwest, California, Alaska, Florida, and the Southwest. In addition, the two have installed public art at SeaTac airport, various pieces across this country, and as far away as Japan. Sand-carved panels for Seattle Public Arts Commission were recently installed in a domestic violence court room in Seattle. Most recently, Teri completed an installation for the Northwest Kidney Foundation in Seattle. Presently (and maybe always) her driving force is the creatures of the ocean and the need to help improve their environment. Volunteer work as a trained beach naturalist keeps Teri connected to this passion. She says "Art has taken me to places that I would have never been. Art is basic to life itself."
