Undefeated Cashmere crashes Goats’ Senior Night, 58-7.

Bulldogs keep the Bronze Shoe

CHELAN – The coveted bronze shoe looks a little worn and tough these days, but Bulldogs like to chew on things like that, so Cashmere’s undefeated varsity football team brought the relic home from Chelan last Friday, Oct. 20.

The 1A Caribou Trail leaders took a quarter to dial into their game against the Goats who got on the scoreboard first midway through the first quarter on a short 12-yard run. Cashmere’s David Odenrider tied the game 7-7 with 2:46 remaining the end of the quarter but Cashmere lost some field position when the ball fell off the tee at the moment of kickoff and Chelan was awarded possession on the Bulldogs’ 42-yard line.

After that little glitch it was the Bulldogs’ relentless running and passing game that found opportunities in the Goats defense to score seven more times for a 58-7 win. Cashmere scored twice in the second quarter and four more times in the third including a two-point safety off a Chelan fumble and blocked punt deep in the Goats’ territory.

Before the game, Bulldogs’ head coach Bryan Bremer praised his team’s defense for only allowing opponents 65 points or 9.3 points per game on the season. That average was improved a bit with the Chelan win.

“Our defense is led by three senior three-year starters,” said Bremer. “Trae Smith, Josh Meros, and Dalan Smart, and a few incredible underclassmen, Brody Larsen, Aidan Theiss, and Prin Fox.”

Cashmere has a young offense with five sophomore starters including quarterback Ryan Hatmaker who had thrown for 20 touchdowns and only one interception prior to last Friday’s game.

“Senior Tyler Petersen leads our team in rushing yards,” said Bremer. “Sophomores Dalan Smart and Logan Spies are the go-to targets through the air.”

The Bulldogs’ balanced offensive attack – 1,499 yards passing and 1,478 yards rushing – is one reason why the team is now 3-0 in the CTL and 8-0 overall.

The Bulldogs will host one of two winner-to-state cross-over games on Nov. 3.
