Cashmere High School boys and girls are preparing for their first meet of the season on Saturday Feb. 27 hosted by Wahluke High School in Mattawa.

It will be an interesting cross country season. This year our league includes all the high schools of Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan and Grant counties. We will compete for the regional championship against Wenatchee, Eastmont and Moses Lake not to mention our usual league rivals of Chelan, Omak, Cascade and Quincy. Throw in the powerhouse “B” schools of Liberty Bell and Manson and there will some very stiff competition for the championship!

Cashmere girls won the 2020 Caribou Trail League championship which was the third consecutive team league championship for the girls. Being first in the league championship meet qualified the girls to run at the State Championship meet in Pasco. At state, Cashmere girls finished fifth place overall. Syd Smith earned a medal by placing 13th individually. We have five of our seven state runners back on the team this season so we have some experienced runners returning. Seniors Syd Smith and Adria Torrence have run in three state meets while Junior Tristan Hoffman has run in two state meets. Seniors Ellie Martin and Kylee Foster have both competed in one state meet.

The Cashmere boys finished in second place at the league championship meet last year which qualified them to compete at the state meet. Rob McManus finished 2nd overall at the state meet and the team placed 6th overall. The boys team also has several returning runners with state meet experience. Senior Rob McManus has run in three state meet and Senior Dyllion Taylor has run twice. Seniors Oscar Orozco and Kyler Knoll and Junior Henry Nelson have each competed in one state meet.
