CHELAN COUNTY - Republican Brian Burnett is currently leading the race for State Representative Position 1 in Washington's 12th Legislative District, with strong support from rural counties balancing his opponent's urban advantage.

Early returns show Burnett with 31,756 votes (52.8%) against Democrat Heather Koellen's 28,113 votes (46.7%). The remaining 0.5% consists of write-in votes.

Burnett's strongest showing comes from Chelan County, where he received 59.07% of votes (17,865), and Snohomish County, where he garnered 54.35% (7,376). Despite trailing in King County, where he received 40.5% (6,515) to Koellen's 59.32%, Burnett's substantial margins in the other counties have put him in the lead.

The race remains unofficial with additional ballots yet to be counted across all three counties.
