CASHMERE — The Cashmere Public Library will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a lively, all-ages trivia night on Friday, Sep. 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The program is part of a countywide effort by NCW Libraries and the NCW Equity Alliance to highlight Latin American history, culture, and contributions through community events.
The event will use Kahoot, an interactive quiz platform where participants answer multiple-choice questions on their phones or tablets. Questions appear on a shared screen, and players compete for points in real time. Kahoot has become a popular classroom tool and is increasingly used in libraries and community gatherings because it blends learning with a game-show atmosphere.
Trivia topics will range from flags and geography to music, food, and cultural history, giving families and individuals a chance to test their knowledge together. Light refreshments will be provided, and prizes will go to the top scorers. Organizers encourage participants to register online through the NCW Libraries calendar to save a spot, as seating is limited to 45 people.
Hispanic Heritage Month is observed nationally from Sep. 15 to Oct. 15. The tradition began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week, established by President Lyndon Johnson, and was expanded to a month-long observance in 1988. The dates were chosen to coincide with independence anniversaries in several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, which all mark independence on Sep. 15. Mexico follows with its national day on Sep. 16, and Chile on Sep. 18.
The Cashmere program is one of many library-hosted events across the region during the month. NCW Libraries and the NCW Equity Alliance are partnering on trivia nights, story times, and cultural activities designed to highlight the diversity and history of Latin America while creating a fun, welcoming space for community learning.
The program is free to attend. Registration is available on the NCW Libraries website.
