Chelan County Expo Center to host three-day dog scent trial

Posted

CASHMERE — Dogs and their handlers will put their noses to the test at the Wenatchee Kennel Club’s Fall Scent Work Trial, set for Sept. 19–21 at the Chelan County Expo Center.

Scent Work, often called “nosework,” is a canine sport that highlights dogs’ incredible sense of smell. During the competition, dogs search for hidden odor cues placed in challenging environments. When a dog identifies the scent, it signals the handler, who then calls the find for the judge.

The sport is open to nearly any dog over six months old that’s registered with the American Kennel Club or that have AKC Limited Registration, Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privileges (PAL/ILP), an AKC Canine Partners listing number or approved Foundation Stock Service (FSS) breeds, whether purebred or mixed breed, making it an inclusive and engaging event for local enthusiasts. For many handlers, Scent Work also serves as a way to build confidence and deepen the bond with their pets.

The trials in Cashmere will bring together competitors from across the region, offering spectators the chance to see dogs of all shapes and sizes showcase their skills. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive, making it a fun outing for dog lovers and families alike.

The Wenatchee Kennel Club has hosted a variety of dog sports and educational events for decades, and the Fall Scent Work Trial is one of the highlights of its yearly calendar.

The competition runs all three days, Sept. 19–21, at the Chelan County Expo Center in Cashmere. Entries are open now, but close on Sep 8, so get yours in soon using the editable form at https://tinyurl.com/ScentTrials. Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m., and runs begin at 8 a.m.
