LEAVENWORTH — Human remains believed to be those of Travis Decker were discovered this week in a remote wooded area south of Leavenworth, according to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

The remains were located during a search led by the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, with assistance from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Forest Service, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

“While positive identification has not yet been confirmed, preliminary findings suggest the remains belong to Travis Decker,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The Washington State Patrol crime scene response team is processing the site, and DNA analysis will follow to confirm the identity.

Sheriff’s officials said they have been in contact with the Decker family and are providing support and updates. Authorities asked the public and media for privacy and respect for the family as the investigation continues.

Further updates will be released as additional information becomes available through the forensic examination and investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
