Six bold Cashmere girls took the stage at the Cashmere Middle School auditorium on Sunday, February 17 for a chance to become 2019's Cashmere Royalty.
From the opening act of the girls dancing to the catchy pop ballad Heroes (to match the theme) to the final moment when the candidates embraced the newly crowned Royalty - the girls each brought something different, but all appeared to put in the same degree of effort.
Even with minor technical difficulties, each girl smoothly delivered their speech and showed off their talent. Not one of the candidates stumbled over the impromptu questions and each gave a candid but eloquently done reply. The preparation for the pageant from the girls was apparent throughout.
However, despite each girl having put her best foot forward, only three could take the title of Cashmere Royalty. Katherine Silva, who performed a contemporary dance that she personally choreographed, was named a princess. Faith Acton, who did a fun monologue of a girl getting those familiar jitters before a first date, was also named a princess.
Johanna Christensen, who recited a powerful spoken word poem, was named Queen of Cashmere. Not only did she receive thunderous applause as she was crowned, but Christensen was also enveloped by her fellow candidates on the stage.
