CHELAN COUNTY – Preliminary results are in for Chelan County Public Utility District (PUD) Commissioner District 2 position.
Incumbent commissioner Randy Smith is on the path to secure another term with 63 percent of the vote (16,570 votes) over former Peshastin Water District general manager and commissioner Steve Keene (9,543 votes). Smith has served on the commission since 2007.
If re-elected, Smith will serve another six-year term for District 2, which represents the western part of the county. Five commissioners from three commissioner districts serve on the PUD commission. The commission establishes policy, reviews the PUD’s operations, and approves plans, budgets, and expenditures. The commission exercises legal responsibilities and powers of the PUD, which includes the establishment of rates and charges for services rendered.
Keene said he respects Smith’s experience, knowledge, and admirable service on the PUD commission, and would support him in his re-election.
“Cooperation and a willingness to work together for the common good are core values that have already contributed to the success of the Chelan County PUD and I hope to see that success carried forward as we all work for a comfortable and prosperous future and prepare for the many challenges ahead,” said Keene in an email to Ward Media.
Incumbent Steve McKenna ran unopposed for another four-year term as Commissioner, District A.
Smith did not respond for immediate comment. A total of 32,140 ballots have been counted with an estimated 7,255 ballots left to count. The next ballot count is anticipated on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m.
