CASHMERE — On the second Tuesday of every month from 5:30–6:30 p.m., local art supply store Small Change holds a community event that’s sure to spark imagination and creativity. The store hosts a casual, fun evening of arts and crafts that’s really meant to help you escape from the daily grind.
Each month, they feature themes and quick warm-up exercises adaptable to various arts and crafts. Following the warm-up, you're free to work on your own project or collaborate with others. Please bring your own supplies (e.g., pen & paper, watercolor, knitting, needlepoint, clay, collage), or purchase them at Small Change.
Engaging in art, regardless of prior experience, has been scientifically proven to lower blood pressure and reduce cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress. This benefit holds true whether you are a seasoned artist or a beginner, and even if you doubt your artistic ability or creativity. The act of creating art mirrors the effects of meditation, aiding in focus and minimizing distractions. As you concentrate on the intricacies of your artwork, your mind ceases to wander and your body naturally unwinds.
RSVPs are appreciated but not required. If space becomes an issue, part of the group can easily move next door to Yonder Cider to grab a beverage and continue creating.
This is a great opportunity to get to know new friends and neighbors, be creative, and get out of your work cycle, even on a weeknight. You can pre-register online with Meetup at https://tinyurl.com/smallchangedrawntogether, but again, it’s not required. Just bring your creative spirit!
