Teen faces multiple charges after fleeing police in stolen vehicle

WENATCHEE — A 19-year-old Kent man was arrested Monday morning following a vehicle pursuit and crash on Blewett Pass in Chelan County, authorities said.

Washington State Patrol troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2008 Black Lincoln MKX traveling westbound on State Route 2 near milepost 105 at approximately 9:00 a.m. The driver failed to yield to law enforcement, according to WSP officials.

Due to hazardous snow conditions on the roadway, troopers did not initiate a pursuit as the vehicle continued southbound on State Route 97 Blewett Pass. Approximately one mile south of State Route 2, officers discovered the vehicle had crashed into Washington State Department of Transportation property.

Upon investigation, authorities determined the Lincoln MKX had been reported stolen from Douglas County. The driver had fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a rifle in the vehicle, officials said.

Chelan County Sheriff's deputies responded to assist, deploying a K-9 unit that led to the peaceful surrender of the suspect. The teenager was taken into custody and booked into the Chelan County Regional jail.

Authorities said charges will be filed for multiple offenses, including possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of firearms, possession of stolen property, possession of drugs, and hit and run.

The incident prompted the closure of State Route 97 for approximately 30 minutes while law enforcement conducted their investigation.
