OLYMPIA — The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will convene a virtual meeting Friday to address proposed commercial whale watching regulations and other matters.
The three-hour session, scheduled for January 10 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., will include a briefing and public hearing on proposed rules for commercial whale watching and paddle tour operators. A final decision on these proposals is set for deliberation during a hybrid meeting scheduled for February 13-15 in Olympia.
The agenda includes consideration of a potential future presentation on Columbia River fisheries management.
The Commission will discuss the recently published William D. Ruckelshaus Center organizational review report and receive a legislative session update during the meeting.
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) staff will provide an update on avian influenza in the region.
The meeting will be live-streamed through the Commission's webpage at www.wdfw.wa.gov/about/commission/meetings, with recordings made available afterward for public viewing.
The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission, appointed by the governor, serves as the policy-setting body for the WDFW. The department works to preserve, protect, and perpetuate fish, wildlife, and ecosystems while providing sustainable fish and wildlife recreational and commercial opportunities.
The complete meeting agenda can be accessed through the WDFW website at www.wdfw.wa.gov/about/commission/meetings/2025.
