CASHMERE — Cashmere girls soccer won three more games this week, all by shutout, to improve to 14-0.
Freshman Charlee Andruss scored in the 51st minute as the Bulldogs edged Naches Valley 1-0 at home Tuesday, Oct. 13. Cashmere had also beaten the Rangers 1-0 in the teams' first meeting Sept. 17.
Cashmere lost standout senior center back Sydney McIver to an injury around the 15-minute mark and moved senior forward Brynne Patrick to the back line to help contain Naches Valley's counterattacks. After a scoreless first half, freshman Claudia McElearney played a pass into the attacking third, senior Addie Talley faked and let it run through, and Andruss controlled it and finished.
Senior goalkeeper Ellie Van Winkle made key saves to preserve the shutout. Naches Valley came in 10-1-1 and ranked No. 8. The win moved Cashmere up to No. 2 in the WIAA 1A State RPI rankings, according to the school.
Five players scored Thursday, Oct. 15, as Cashmere won 5-0 at Wahluke. Against a Wahluke defense that packed in front of its goal, McElearney scored in the eighth minute, assisted by Patrick, and Patrick made it 2-0 in the 35th minute on a pass from Andruss.
Cashmere made adjustments at halftime and added three second-half goals. Makelah Gatens scored in the 49th minute and Amelia Sandelin in the 65th, both assisted by Violet Reike, and Talley finished the scoring unassisted in the 73rd minute. Wahluke is the only team to score against Cashmere this season, according to a Cashmere athletics release.
The Bulldogs closed the week Saturday, Oct. 17, with a 1-0 nonleague win over visiting Cascade. The Kodiaks fell to 10-4-1.
